ABOUT CHI ALPHA @ SSU!

HOW IT STARTED...🤔

The origins of Chi Alpha at Sonoma State began in 2018 with a group of freshman friends who were pursuing God relentlessly and having a ton of fun doing it.

This organically grew into a weekly prayer/worship gathering in the Beaujolais dorms with students from all over campus coming to experience the presence of a Living God.

After COVID, many of the students from this weekly gathering returned to host campus-wide prayer and worship services, with one filling the Alumni Amphitheatre.

This movement launched discipleship groups, small groups, and bible studies spanning across California. Many involved in the original dorm gatherings now lead ministries at multiple local churches in Sonoma County.

HOW IT 'S GOING...😄

In Oct. 2023, God moved again when He touched a few Sonoma State baseball players, causing them to reach other players, greek life students, and on-campus students.

To continue the work that God has been doing since 2018, this community of students became an official Sonoma State student organization, associated with Chi Alpha Campus Ministries in 2024.

Today, Chi Alpha is a thriving campus community where students from any walk of life can encounter God and grow deeper in their relationship with Jesus Christ.

We love hanging out together, making new friends, laughing hard, experiencing God’s presence, digging deep into TOUGH questions, and living by God’s Word – the Bible.

Common Questions :)

What is Chi Alpha?

We are a thriving campus community to Know God & Make Him Known, following Jesus in the power of the Holy Spirit who are devoted to prayer, worship, discipleship, fellowship, and witness.

In the Bible, the Apostle Paul wrote,

"We are therefore Christ's ambassadors, as though God were making His appeal through us. We implore you on Christ's behalf, be reconciled to God." -2 Corinthians 5:20

The Chi Alpha movement finds its identity in this passage. We believe that God longs to have each and every person reconciled to Himself, and this happens through the representation of His people.

This invitation is for ALL, regardless of where you start in your faith journey.

What does XA stand for?

Each of us who takes on the identity of “Christian” becomes Christ’s ambassador – or christou apostoloi in Greek, which we shorten to the first letters “Chi” and “Alpha” or XA.

How is XA different than other faith clubs?

We will let other clubs answer for themselves as every group on campus is different. We encourage students to check them out!

At XA, our desire is that every student who comes would experience God in a way they never have, leading them to a genuine relationship with Him.

When can I come to XA?

We meet Mondays off-campus & Thursdays on-campus. Both are at 7:00pm. All meetings are open to guests, SSU friends, etc.

Is Chi Alpha a Fraternity or Sorority?

No. We are a Christian club/student org open to ALL students.
